Continuing with my STEM Learning journey
Hi Again All,
It's great to be back blogging after a very busy time: being Head of Year 4 over the last two years, undertaking a NPQLT, taking part in our Ogden Trust Partnership in Bridlington, being a PSQM Hub Lead within our wonderful Yorkshire and the Humber team, being a member of the ASE Primary Science Committee and also moving house, supporting my girls, partner, family and four-legged boy.
Having worked at Burlington Junior School in Bridlington for the last eight years, I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to work at STEM Learning, such a highly revered educational organisation, over this coming academic year- as a secondee. It was great that I was able to secure our 'Careers Mark' accreditation at school for the third time (years 5/6) before I left and handed that responsibility to my colleague Maxine. It was also brilliant to hand over Science/STEM to my fantastic colleague Jo- who I know is ready to be Science Lead and will do a fantastic job. I have loved my job thus far and am really looking forward to the new challenge this academic year.
Since first attending the STEM Learning 9-day course to build Science Lead Subject knowledge and skills, I have always hoped that one day I would be able to work at STEM Learning, so I was thrilled to be appointed. The first day was so strange- after working in a classroom for the last eleven years and listening for the bell all the time. My secondary colleague Linda is so great and we have had a busy first three weeks. Our STEM Learning colleagues have all been wonderful- as nice behind the scenes as they were right back when I met them in 2017. Extra-curricular activities have included running around the university campus with colleagues, an afternoon yoga session and even a catch up, with some lovely new friends, in Heslington at the pub after work!
We are currently working hard on a research project to importantly, attain the views/feedback of teachers, Science Leads, SLT/Head Teachers and Science/STEM Education specialists of the organisation. This information will be collated/analysed and our findings presented, to ensure the best possible/suitable offer of CPD is available. Keep your eyes out for questionnaires, or appeals from us for Science teachers/Leads to share their opinions/take part in discussions, over the next few weeks.
Thank you for reading,
Catch up soon,
Kate
